Off Road Driving

More and more people in the UK are buying 4x4s nowadays. Many will not use them for off road driving but many will. This can be a fun and exciting pastime! As with all kinds of vehicle based sports, however, it is recommended that you get some training in before you start off road driving in earnest. There are numerous 4x4 or off road centres that can help you out here with the basics.

The key thing to remember is that off road driving isn't really like driving on a standard road. The car will need to be in four wheel drive to make the most of what can be a bumpy experience! You may find yourself driving across various types of terrain here depending on where you do your off road driving. It is wise to take some time to scope out where you are going and how you will negotiate obstacles such as ruts, water, hills, rocks and mud.

Many off road drivers will, in fact, walk round the area where they want to drive their 4x4 before they drive it at all. This will help you assess what obstacles are around and how you can best negotiate them.

It is also important to check your vehicle over before you try off road driving. It is, for example, especially important to check your tyres before you set off. Some off road drivers use special off road tyres which give a better grip.
